CONSULTATION |
 |
 |
A doctor may refer a patient for consultation or case management.
A)
Consultation
The doctor may refer a patient for consultation. The doctor at the
clinic responds in writing to the request for consultation. The
patient will return to his or her doctor, who continues to assume
administrative and medical responsibility of the case, in other
words, he remains the "attending physician" or
"medical officer" for the CSST.
B)
Case management
The
attending physician may transfer the patient to the clinic
for
a problem related to a professional injury. The doctor at the
clinic assumes responsibility for the case and submits a report to
the attending physician. The doctor at the clinic is then the
"medical officer"
for the CSST. It is not the role of the clinic to handle all of
the patient's health problems. There can therefore be a
collaboration between
the family doctor of referring doctor and the clinic.
